Off to Cairns [Day 220]

Traveling is about to begin.

I was meant to go to Cairns on Wednesday morning but because of Cyclone Yasi I will be going tomorrow morning instead. This gives me only four days in Cairns, which is a bit of a shame but will still be awesome. I hope I will be able to see the Great Barrier Reef. Then I am off to Auckland next Wednesday until the 7th of March.

The past few weeks have been quite enjoyable. I went to Tasmania for a week and a half which was a nice escape. George and I went on a four day bushwalk on the Tasman Peninsula which was absolutely wonderful. Check out the photos on facebook, it was very beautiful and something that I don't usually do. It was really nice to not just get out of the city but away from civilisation completely, even if just for a few days. I feel a bit "over" city living. On the last day we went to Port Arthur, where the worst of the worst convicts in Australia were held in the 1800s. We went on a ghost tour there, and although I didn't have any personal encounters it was still quite enjoyable and the stories were very good.

Last Monday the company that runs the pub I've been working at had a massive 800 person staff party. It was on the rooftop of the Swiss Grand Hotel, overlooking Bondi Beach. It was a nice sunny day and there was a pool and free-flowing alcohol. I had an awesome time, it was a great way to say goodbye to my workmates.

The weather here is getting quite hot, there has been a heatwave this week and it's been in the 30s C (90s F) everyday. Since there is no aircon in either my flat or workplace, I have been sweating a lot and am trying to just accept the constant stickiness. I am very much looking forward to the "cold" of New Zealand.

Hope everyone is doing well back home and elsewhere, I will try to post again soon.
